Doggie Stay

Positive training that your human-dog team will enjoy!

Our Approach

Our approach is to teach owners how to teach, guide, and communicate with their dogs to successfully turn struggles into a happy life with a dog. We do this by providing one-on-one lessons, group classes, and day training plans that are customized for each dog and owner.

What is Reward-based training?

Here at Two Dads and a Dog, we will customize a training plan for your dog, relying on the proven results of reward-based training methods whereby the dog is set up to succeed and then rewarded for performing the ‘good’ behavior (positive reinforcement).

Reward-based training is enjoyable for the dog and positively enhances the relationship between the dog and handler. This approach revolves around positive reinforcement – i.e. rewarding behavior that we like. Rewards may be in the form of a tasty food treat, games, verbal praise, touch, a walk, a car ride, etc…to be offered immediately after the dog performs the ‘good’ behavior.

Instead of ignoring unwanted behaviors, our approach involves management of the human, dog, and the environment in order to expedite the success you’re looking for. Think about management this way: anything we do to limit the choices our dogs have for unwanted behavior. Any unwanted behaviors we let our dog practice are likely to become stronger habits. Most of the time, success of our training plan results mostly from managing the humans and the environment aspects.
