NORTH PARK

At the Rose Barn - Mon. & Tue. from 6PM to 9PM

Classes are designed as a training foundation for friendly, non-reactive dogs over 3 months of age. You will learn the skills need to set your dog up for success so that you can enjoy life together!

Please keep in mind that we keep the class size small in order to ensure safety and comfort for you and your dogs.  Some classes offer rolling enrollment, which mean you can start class at anytime as long as there is still space left in the class.

Not only will we cover topics such as loose leash walking, jumping, and crate training but your dog will also master basic cues such as sit, down, stand, stay, come, leave it, focus and much more!

Puppies

PUPPY  SOCIALIZATION  CLASS

This class is for puppies between the ages of 7-14 weeks. This early developmental class is designed to help the puppies develop initial social skills and start problem solving development. Puppy socialization is more than letting them play until exhaustion at the dog park nor is taking the pup everywhere you go. It is more about helping your puppy feel safe in the world around YOU.

Each one of our puppy socialization classes includes multiple lessons on socializing your individual puppy along with tips for stopping common behavior problems that come with puppyhood like potty training, chewing, nipping and barking.

We are proponents of combining natural interactions among puppies with appropriate human intervention as a balanced approach to a healthy socialization experience.

Learning areas:

Puppies: Crate/pen/bed training; force-free handling and care; potty training; confidence building; enrichment; feeding techniques; exercise; mental stimulation; strategies for reducing nipping, biting and chewing; arousal training and others.

Humans: Capturing good behavior, positive interrupters, canine body language, identifying puppy play styles and matching playmates.

Important Additional Information:
Puppy Socialization Classes are exclusively for puppies between the ages of 7-14 weeks at the start of the class, who have had at least the first round of parvo and distemper vaccinations before beginning class. Each puppy is allowed to bring a maximum of 2 humans along to participate. Children are welcome to attend, but we require an adult to handle the puppy during class.

Please be advised that many of the activities will require you to sit on the floor with your puppy and some activities may be held outside so please dress for your comfort.

The changes can be many and surprising. The needs of a new puppy can be highly variable based on their breed, temperament, and even on their age.

Joining our Puppy Socialization Class as a visual learner will help you prepare for the arrival of the new family member and its early days in your care. We will cover aspects of puppy behavior, socialization, and care.

Fluency Series @ North Park

There are many dogs who will sit, lie down, stay, heel, and show off a few fun parlor tricks at home – but who look completely perplexed when asked to perform the same behaviors at an outdoor café, while visiting relatives or friends, or perhaps even when entering the ring at a dog show!

It’s important to understand generalization and fluency because a dog’s failure to perform is often seen as the dog’s deliberate choice to not comply. In reality, the dog’s lack of compliance usually means he doesn’t know the behavior to the extent you believe he does. That’s a training problem; the behavior wasn’t generalized and taught to fluency.

In this series of classes we will work on Precision, Latency, Speed, Distance, Duration, and Distractions.  Choose up to 3 training areas when signing up: Jumping, Recall, Leash manners, Bed/Mat, Down, Sit, Leave, Stay, Attention, Drop.

  • Time: Various

  • Age: Over 6 months

  • Duration: Approximately 55 minutes.

  • Format: Indoors / Virtual*

  • Prerequisites:  Basic manners previously taught indoors with low to none distractions

  • Location: The Rose Barn  [Pierce Mill Rd, Allison Park, PA 15101]

  • Cost: $25 per dog

Classes will have rolling enrollment, meaning if there is an open spot, you can join at any time.  If you have not worked with us before, arrive 15 minutes before class for a quick evaluation.

*  Recommended for dogs with extreme excitability, fearfulness or aggression (barking, growling, lunging at other dogs or humans). Click HERE to learn more.
